Salt: Silent Killer – that tastes so good?

Salz: Stiller Killer – der so gut schmeckt?

Reduce salt, recognize hidden salt and understand sodium in food

Let's start with the less serious ones: microplastics in sea salt

Lots of microplastics in salt: Professor Michalsen warns about sea salt

The renowned nutritionist from Charité Berlin says that many salts – especially sea salt – are contaminated with microplastics. Microplastics are everywhere in the oceans. Sea salt and, for example, Fleur de Sel should be avoided. Sea salt microplastics are therefore a topic that should be taken seriously when shopping.
Instead, he recommends “old” sea salt, i.e., rock salt or Himalayan salt, which was formed at a time when the oceans did not yet contain microplastics. Those who want to buy rock salt or Himalayan salt therefore often find these alternatives more attractive. We have immediately added these to our shop. But it gets much worse.

Science journalist Bas Kast summarizes scientific studies well

I have come to appreciate Bas Kast as a science journalist lately.
He analyzes relevant studies on a topic and compiles the results critically and, for me, reliably and without business interests. We "normal citizens" have neither the time nor the opportunities for this.
Through him, I became aware of the full significance of salt and health, as well as the personal consequences for me.

Study: What makes our current diet so unhealthy, what makes us sick and even kills us?

A serious and comprehensive study, published in The Lancet, examined data from 195 countries worldwide to identify which dietary factors are most strongly associated with illness and death. We think of trans fats, sugar, or processed meat. The research team identified salt as the undisputed frontrunner. It is even more dangerous than smoking. And over 1 billion people worldwide are probably affected. This shows how relevant salt consumption and salt intake have become worldwide.
